Paper Cutter Safety

Guillotine cutters have developed a reputation dangerous. Because they have extremely sharp blades and exert substantial force, are effective in doing things. The same characteristics that make cutters effective also make them dangerous. Because of these things, accidents involving these cutters occur from time to time. Cutters are available in more styles than you can imagine. There are literally hundreds of styles of available space. Not all cutters are constructed the same, especially when it comes to quality and safety. If you are thinking of buying this type of machine, you can read this article for some information on the characteristics of safety critical guillotine cutter.

Guard
The guard of the blade is by far the most important safety feature available on guillotine cutters. Surprisingly, many people remove the safety protection when using the cutter. While the guard might be a bit 'pushy, working without fingers is much more annoying. Sometimes the blade guard is a metal rod positioned close to the blade, but upper blade guard are made of plastic and will prevent users from obtaining the fingers near the blade on both sides of the machine.

Blade Latch
The blade clamp locks the blade down when not using the cutter. It is usually a thin wire that simply hooks onto the handle. Sometimes it is a piece of metal attached to the bottom of the handle. The purpose of the stationary blade is to keep the blade in such a way that nobody accidentally or impulsively grabs, stroke, or touches the blade. Obviously one of these could result in an injury serious and potentially life changing, which could have been avoided simply by exercising caution and common sense.

Spring tension
All units of the guillotine type should be equipped with tension springs. The tension spring is fixed to the back of the blade and is designed to prevent the blade slide down when the handle is released. Guillotine cutters without this spring to its name, the guillotine, and I am very, very dangerous. You should never use a knife that has no spring tension. It is literally an accident waiting to happen. No task of cutting paper is worth losing a digit above. If the cut does not have tension spring, put it in a safe place until the tension spring can be replaced.

The biggest safety factor in guillotine cutter is the user. It is not simply a substitute for common sense. Do not use when one is distracted or when it can not give full attention to the task at hand. Even units with security features can still cause accidents. These types of machines are wonderful tools for their powerful blades and the ability to easily cut through the piles of paper. However, for the same reasons that is a good tool, which is dangerous. Be very careful when you use one of these machines and do not use one that is not equipped with safety features .......
