10 tips to make your Website Visitors Come Back For More

1. Make it easy for visitors to bookmark your website. Place 'Bookmark this site' and 'Bookmark this page' buttons on every page of your site. Depending on the technology used to build your site, you can install a plugin or a component specially written software for the CMS used to build your site, or simply do a search in your favorite search engine for 'Bookmark site script', to add a small script to your static website to achieve the same purpose.

2. But we are in the era of Web 2.0, so apart from the buttons for your website in your favorite browser, you should also add buttons so they can bookmark your website on their favorite social bookmarking site. These are often called chicklets. You can also search the search engines to social bookmarks to add to your blog, or search sites, such as Addthis, which provides a service to cover more bookmarking sites.

3. Speaking of buttons, a third type of button you should have is a button RSS feeds. This may be a simple RSS button for people to add their own sites, or an RSS feed MyYahoo buttons so that people can add your site to their MyYahoo pages. To add these types of buttons for your site, your site must be able to generate an RSS feed. The easiest way to achieve this is to add a component to your blogging site, as most blogging tools like Wordpress RSS feed is already built in.

4. This brings us to the next tip - regular updates to your website. Adding regular content for your website has two advantages: it pulls new visitors who may have your RSS feeds on their sites, and also pulls the search engines. Search engines love new content and return more often to your site if the site is updated often. Regular updates are easy to do if you have a blog connected to the web site, but it is also important to add new content to the regular side of your website. The best type of content is to be useful information for visitors, such as tips, tutorials, guides and comparisons.

5. Ask people to subscribe to a newsletter. Email marketing is a valuable tool in any web marketing arsenal. If you can get your visitors to sign up for a newsletter you can send regular updates of new content and to invite people to read the content on your website - thereby pulling them back to your site.

6. Add a 'Recommend this site to a friend' form so that the visitor can email your site to a friend, or friends. Be careful with this though by spammers love email forms on web sites. Ask your web site to install a script that has spam protection built in.

7. Making it easier for people to contact you. Having a contact form on every page. Make sure you have multiple ways to contact people to you, either by phone, online chat or email forms. Again, make sure the module is protected against spammers.

8. Create a FAQ section on your site, with questions and answers that could answer questions from visitors. You could assemble these questions to the questions we are asked by customers off-line in your brick and mortar business. This page may help to establish trust in you and your product or service. And trust is absolutely essential if you want to get people to buy from you.

9. Making it easier for people to navigate your site. The usability guru Jakob Nielsen recommends that Web designers should keep site navigation as standard as possible. All menus and links should be clearly marked as such. If people are confused with the site layout and can not easily navigate from one section to another, they will go fast! For large sites with a trail of bread crumbs on top of each page that shows the current position in the hierarchy of each page of each site, is essential.

10. Make your site interactive. We are moving increasingly toward Web sites that offer interactive features for visitors. This is a broad generic term that covers everything from forums to blogs, online chat help desk support. You can also do online surveys and polls, or allow visitors to upload their own content to your site depending on the situation. Allow visitors to interact with the site has two advantages: it actually builds more content to your site, and allows the visitor and makes them feel in control of their experience of visiting the site ....
